Dye Job! My high school son and his friends want to dye their hair blonde as a end of school joke!?

Ok so my son and this big group of guys are all coming over to dye their hair blonde as a joke. My son happens to have dark brown hair. His hair is also somewhat fine. I am worried that his hair will come out orange-ish! I bought him a Loreal Extra light Beige Blonde hair dye kit. It recomends to leave it on for 45 minutes to dye light brown hair blonde. Since his hair is darker is there any thing I can do to make it a true blonde color! Help!

If you cant go to a salon, which I highly recommend, go to sally and purchase quick blue with a 30v cream developer. This definetly wont cost you much. mix and apply according to the directions on the packet. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP AN EYE ON HIS HAIR WHEN IT'S PROCESSING. If you let it overprocess his hair will turn to mush. Don't be scared and rinse once you see red or orange. Hair goes through different steps when it is lightened. The next phase after the orange will be a pale yellow. Once you get there it is safe to rinse. The entire process may take longer than the package says. One more thing, while processing his hair, make sure you keep the hair moist with the product... once it dries up, it's done working.... I hope this helps you. I would love to know how it turns out

Take him to a stylist. That way, you are bound to get the results you want-w/o worrying about "orange" hair.

bleach

I'd recomend a peroxide with out a colour or it might go orange. Sounds like a great idea though!

You should do a strand test first to see how long it really takes for his hair to lighten to the desired blondeness. Keep in mind that he might have to do it twice, which can really dry his hair out. I would follow the strand test box directions and then do a second box if needed. He probably will have some reddish strands.

i suggest he doesn't do it....his hair is fine like my mom's and bleach is sometimes too harsh for thin hair. just my thought. but if he really wants to do it, just go to a salon, all he will have to worry about is sitting in the chair and waiting until it's done.

The best way to do it without a stylist is to dye it light ash blonde first (the one without the bleach), make sure it is an ash color. Then use the extra light blonde (it has bleach in it) that way it will at least turn out fairly close to blonde. The ash color underneath will help prevent hair from producing any reddish tones from the bleach. You don't have to do it all in the same day, but you can if he wants to.

Try bleach...he's a guy, if it comes out badly he can get a buzz cut...it will grow back!!!!

his hair will be really red, my hair was a med brown and when i dyed it blonde it turned really red. If he wants it blonde he should get a color remover first. then dye it blonde other wise he could be a redhead instead of the blonde within :)

hope this helps

If you don't want to go to a salon, take him to a beauty supply store like Sally's Beauty Supply, and ask one of the employees there. The clerks are usually just clerks, but the managers at Sally's are usually actual cosmetologists and can give you a recommendation if he is there for them to see his hair.

Don't use bleach or color remover as others have said. It's pretty damaging. The reason so many people get undesirable results (particularly red or orange) from do-it-yourself kits is because there is only one kind of developer in the kits. When you purchase the color and developer separately at a beauty supply store, you can customize it for best results. This is REALLY important when trying to avoid red tones.
